What brings horse owners to PEVS

You know your horse. Something isn't right.

Horse owners come to PEVS when they need more than a basic check-up — when something is off and they need a team who takes it seriously and has the tools to find the answer the same visit.

Why it matters

Same-day answers. One location. No referral runaround.

When something is off with your horse, you need answers fast — not a chain of referrals and follow-up appointments. PEVS has the diagnostics, treatment, and rehabilitation capability to handle it all in one place, the same day you come in.

What sets PEVS apart

A different kind of equine practice

Most horse owners have dealt with the same frustration — a partial answer, then being sent somewhere else. PEVS was built to solve that problem completely.

01

100% Equine-Only Practice

Every protocol, every tool, every team member is trained for equine care — which means less room for error and deeper expertise in every exam.

02

Diagnostics On-Site, Same Visit

Digital radiography, endoscopy, ultrasound — available the day you come in. You get answers before you leave, not days later after referrals.

03

Rehabilitation Right on Campus

Through EPIC, your horse can move from diagnosis through rehabilitation without ever leaving the property — no stressful hauls mid-recovery.

04

Transparent, Honest Medicine

We won't recommend a treatment that isn't indicated. We explain what's happening and why — no procedures without a clear clinical reason.

05

Bilingual Care — Hablamos Español

Our team includes Spanish-speaking staff. Every horse owner deserves to fully understand their horse's care.

What horse owners say

Trusted by Marion County's equine community

Don't take our word for it — here's what horse owners throughout Ocala and beyond say about their experience at PEVS.

★★★★★
Lameness Eval · Ultrasound
Problem: Gait concern → Full lameness + imaging → Clear diagnosis & treatment plan

"Dr. Rullan was very thorough. He reviewed her ultrasound pictures with me, explaining the anatomy. I knew she was in the best hands the moment she stepped off the trailer. I would highly recommend PEVS to anyone with an equine in need of evaluation."

— Elaine · Ocala, FL
★★★★★
Exceptional Client Care
Standout: Vet checked in on a case that wasn't even his

"Dr. Colton stopped me on my way out to ask how my mare's wound was healing — and he hadn't even worked on this case. Everyone from office staff to vet techs to veterinarians makes you feel so welcomed and so important."

— Katie · Performance Horse Owner
Common questions

Questions horse owners ask us

We believe you should never feel uncertain about your horse's care. If you don't see your question here, call us — we're happy to help before your first visit.

Call us with any question →
How much does a lameness evaluation cost?
Lameness evaluation fees depend on the scope of the workup. We're transparent about costs and will walk you through what's recommended before proceeding. Call us for a specific estimate based on your horse's situation.
How long does a first appointment take?
Plan for 1–2 hours for a thorough first visit. If imaging is needed, results are reviewed with you the same day — so the visit may run longer, but you leave with real answers.
Do I need a referral to come to PEVS?
No referral is needed. You can call or book directly. If you have existing records from a prior vet, feel free to bring them — but they're not required to get started.
What should I bring to my horse's appointment?
Bring any relevant previous records, imaging, or notes from prior vets. If you've taken any video of the problem at home, bring that too — it can be incredibly useful for our vets.
Do you see horses for routine wellness care?
Yes. While PEVS is known for diagnostics and lameness workups, we also provide general wellness exams, vaccinations, and preventive medicine. We're happy to be your horse's primary care vet.
What if my horse needs surgery — can that happen here?
PEVS has on-site surgical capability including field surgery throughout Marion County. For complex cases, we'll advise on whether in-house surgery or referral is the right choice and help coordinate if needed.
How does the EPIC rehabilitation facility work?
EPIC is our on-site rehabilitation partner on the same campus. After treatment, your horse can begin a structured rehab program — including water treadmill and conditioning — without being trailered. Your PEVS vet coordinates directly with the EPIC team throughout recovery.
Do you have Spanish-speaking staff?
Yes — hablamos español. We have Spanish-speaking team members who assist throughout your visit, from check-in to the veterinary exam and follow-up.
