Dinged But Excellent Old Painted Chalkware Spotted BulldogWhat a face! And what a character! This was a week for finding dogs everywhere I went, but this guy might win the day. There were late 19th c. cast iron mechanical banks of black and white bulldogs in just this pose, so perhaps he was modeled after one of those this guy painted chalkware, heavy for his size, and I might guess made to function as a doorstop ( indeed he's taken some dings) but maybe just to sit on a counter and intimidate!
